A client's whole organisation is one map. Every value stream, stage and practice has a place on it. Zooming in shows more detail and zooming out shows more of the organisation, as on a road map. Nothing moves or changes size as you zoom: each value stream, stage and card keeps its place and size at every level, and only what is drawn inside them changes.

The map has five zoom levels. The zoom ladder on the right edge shows which level you are at. Choose a number on it to jump to that level, or + and − to go in or out one level. Hold the pointer over a number to see what that level shows.

Level 1: value streams

Each value stream is a tinted area with its name above it. A line runs through its stages in order, with each stage's number on it. Use this level to see every value stream at once.

Level 1, with three value streams and the route through their stages

Level 2: stages

Each stage shows its name, its number, one small dot for each practice in it, and how many practices it holds. A stage marked Gate is a point where someone decides whether the work goes on. The small chart icon at a stage's top right opens its maturity map.

The rows under the stages are bands that run alongside some stages, and rows of practices that run through every stage. Read a stage, a band or a value stream explains them.

Level 2, showing the stages of Feature delivery in two layers

Level 3: practice outlines

Each stage shows its practices as small cards, each with the symbol of its family. Use this level to see how full each stage is.

Level 4: practices and relations

The cards show each practice's name and the teams that carry it out. Faint dotted lines join practices that are related. A card that has relations to practices in other stages shows how many, such as "1 link".

Level 4, with one practice selected and its relation drawn in colour

Level 5: relation types

Each card shows the practice's purpose, outline and roles, in that order, as far as they fit, with its teams and its kind at the foot. A practice that also sits in another value stream says so, such as "Also in Feature delivery". A card with more written than fits says "More in details" at its foot, and double-clicking the card opens the whole record. A card with nothing written up says "No purpose, outline or roles written up yet."

Level 5, where each card shows the practice's outline and purpose

From level 3 a click on a card selects it and draws its relations in their colours. Open a practice and read it explains what you can do with a selected practice.
