Reading the map

Zoom from the whole organisation down to one practice, find things by name, use the lenses and the org chart, and open a practice to read it.

  1. Zoom from the organisation to a practice

What each of the map's five zoom levels shows, and how to jump between them with the zoom ladder.

  2. Move around the map

Pan and zoom with the mouse or trackpad, glide to a stage, use the place bar and the overview, and share a link to one place.

  3. Find a value stream, stage or practice

Search the map by part of a name and glide to what you find.

  4. Open a practice and read it

Select a practice to see what it is related to, open its full record, and follow its links to teams, tools and other practices.

  5. Read a stage, a band or a value stream

Open the details of a stage, a band alongside stages or a whole value stream, and read what the layers, gates and rows on the map mean.

  6. Read the key

Open the key at the bottom left to see what the symbols and colours on the map mean.

  7. Use a lens

Highlight one team's practices, colour the map by function or maturity, or pick out every practice of one kind.

  8. What the lines between practices mean

The seven kinds of relation between two practices, in plain words, and how the map draws them.

  9. Use the org chart

See the client's functions and teams, find where a team works, and show its practices on the map.
